In this short publication I propose a framework for musical skill development, tested during my online work with the young musicians of Athenry Music School Sinfonietta.

The core ideas of Critical Listening, Critical Observation and Critical Musical Thinking can be successfully transferred to the live rehearsal situation, equipping students with skills that will enable them to continue to grow into questioning, creative musicians.
